How can we help? 👋

Manage classwork

Find, organize, and publish assignments from your course’s Classwork page.

The Classwork page holds your course’s assignments, organized into units, sections, and lessons.

Open Classwork

  1. Choose your course from the course menu in the left navigation.
  1. Select Content.
  1. Select Classwork.

Expand a unit, section, or lesson to see its assignments. Assignments outside a unit appear under No unit.

The label beside each title identifies the work type, such as “Assignment” or “Assessment.” The label at the right shows its publication status.

  • Draft means you have not published the assignment. Select its title to open the editor.
  • Published means you have published it to a class. Select its title to open the assignment’s results page.

An assignment with a future start date also shows “Published.” Students get access when its start date arrives.

Add and organize content

Open Add to course at the top of the page.

  • New unit adds a unit and opens its name field.
  • New assignment creates a draft.
  • Copy from library opens the library so you can copy content into this course.
The Add to course menu offers a new unit, a new assignment, or a copy from the library.

For actions within a unit, section, or lesson, open its three-dot menu. You can rename, duplicate, reorder, or delete that part of the course. The menu also offers content that you can add at that level. For example, a unit can contain a new section or assignment.

To write questions or change an assignment’s settings, open its editor. See Edit an assignment.

Publish drafts

You can publish one draft or several drafts together.

  1. Select the checkbox beside each draft.
  1. Select Publish in the selection bar.
  1. Select the classes that should receive the work.
  1. Choose Max attempts per question.
  1. Select Next to set dates.
  1. Enter a future Due date for each assignment.
  1. If needed, enter a Start date.
  1. Select the final publish button, which shows the number of assignments.

The initial attempt limit is Unlimited. The limit you choose applies to every assignment you publish in this dialog.

Leave the start date blank to make the work available now. If you set a start date, it must be on or before the due date.

Turn on Set dates per class when classes need different dates. For several assignments, Use the same dates for every assignment lets you reuse a schedule.

If an assignment appears under Cannot publish, read the reason and fix it in the editor. Common reasons include missing content or incomplete questions. You also need a selected class and a future due date.

After publication, the dialog closes and the selection clears. The assignments show “Published.”
