Add Podsie as a Trusted App in Google Workspace

Ensure that your students can still access Podsie via Google SSO!

Add Podsie as a Trusted App

If your school/district uses Google Workspace for Education accounts in order to access Podsie, then your Google Workspace admin must mark Podsie as a trusted application in Google Workspace.

You can review Google’s guidance on how to confirm third-party app settings here. And to make it easy, here's a quick summary of how Google Workspace admins add Podsie as a trusted app:

  1. Log in to your Google Workspace for Education admin account.
  1. Navigate to the Admin console and click on "Security."
  1. From the Security menu, select "API Controls."
  1. Under "Third-party apps," click on "Manage third-party access."
  1. Click on the "+ Trusted" button and search for "Podsie."
  1. Select Podsie from the search results and click "Add."

That's it! You've successfully listed Podsie as a trusted app, ensuring uninterrupted access for all our Google Workspace for Education users.

Alternative sign-in option to Google SSO (Email/Password)

As a temporary alternative to Google SSO, your students could create a new Email/Password combination using the same school email they previously used to log in. Note: this method requires your student to access their school email to verify their new Email/Password combination account.

To do this, have your student go to the student side Log In/Sign Up page. Once they are there, they must click on the ‘Sign Up’ link at the bottom:

In the next view, they must use the same exact email they were previously using with Google SSO. If they use a different email, then they will not have access to all of their old data on Podsie. Students then create a password and click ‘Continue’:

At this point, your student will be brought to an ‘Email Not Verified’ screen:

Here, they must go to their email address, where they should have received an email from “notify@podsie.org”. Click on the verification link:

IF your student did not receive a verification email, they may have run into one of the following issues:

  1. It may have gone to their spam folder.
  1. Your school/district may block notification emails from Podsie. In this scenario, there is, unfortunately, nothing we can do without support from your school/district IT.

IF during your student’s sign up process, it says ‘The user already exists’, then they may have already previously accidentally created an Email/Password combination. In that case, they should go back to the ‘Log In’ and click ‘Forgot Password’.

Overall, we highly recommend that you only use this approach as a stopgap solution, and again, this Email/Password combination will not work if your student’s school email is unable to receive notification emails from third-party apps like Podsie.

FAQs

🤔 How do I make sure my students don’t lose access to Podsie as a result of this change?

Your Google Workspace admin must approve Podsie as a trusted application for third-party application access to Google Workspace prior to the October 23, 2023 deadline. If you are the administrator for Google Workspace for Education, follow the instructions included above. If you are a teacher and you or your students have lost access to Podsie via Google, you can use other sign-in methods (see below). We also recommend that you contact your school or district administrators to let them know that Podsie is critical to your instruction and should be added as a trusted app.

😱 Who is most impacted by this change?

This change could directly impact both teachers’ and students’ ability to access Podsie. Students will be blocked from signing into third-party apps you haven't confirmed access settings for, so be sure to update your settings before the deadline.

🤔 I am already a Podsie user, does this mean I am not impacted by this change?

No. Because this change is based on your Google Workspace administration settings, it will still require an administrator to approve the use of Podsie by ensuring third-party application access. If you do not take action, all students using Google to sign on will be impacted.

😱 How do I know if my District or School has Podsie identified as a trusted application?

There are a couple of ways that you can identify if Podsie is identified as a trusted application at your school/district. First, you can contact your Google Workspace administrator and ask if Podsie has a trusted status. Second, you can check to see if your students are able to successfully log in and access Podsie with their Google account after October 23, 2023 (Note: this will only be apparent after the October 23 deadline).

🙂 Are there alternative methods that I can use to log-in to Podsie?

Yes. Teachers and students have other ways they log-in to Podsie without Google credentials. The simplest alternative for now would be to have your students also create an Email/Password Log-In.
