Add Explanation
Experimental feature that uses AI to help teachers quickly add explanations for struggling questions
This feature is intended for teachers who have already been using Podsie with students. If you’re new to Podsie, we recommend first going through the onboarding and getting Podsie set up with your students before then coming back to try this page out!
The purpose of this page is to help teachers quickly add explanations for struggling questions.
Explanations are displayed to students after they answer a question, so they are good opportunities to help clarify misconceptions.
The key feature here is the “Suggest Explanation” button, which calls on an external AI service (OpenAI’s GPT-3) that looks at your question and provides a potential explanation that you can add to your question:
Limitations of this experimental feature (IMPORTANT)
- Suggested explanations ARE NOT guaranteed to be accurate, so if you decide to use a suggested explanation, it’s important for you to first confirm its accuracy.
- Suggested explanations may be cut off. Because Podsie pays for this external service letter based on the number of characters in the explanation, we’ve set a limit to the length of the explanation that gets returned. In the future, we may remove this limit, but for now, we’ve implemented it so that our bill does not get prohibitively high 😅.
- The external AI service cannot process images, so if your question or answers have images in them, then the AI will generate a suggestion based on the text of your question/answers.
- The external AI service is fairly new, so it faces occasional outages. In the event of outages, the Podsie simply has to wait for the external AI service to resolve issues on their end.
